I Have Issues – Week 2

Happy Mother’s Day

Overwhelmed

“Delirious, I chattered like a swallow or a crane, and then I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew tired of looking to heaven for help. I am in trouble, Lord. Help me!” Isaiah 38:14

“God sent the angel Gabriel…to a virgin named Mary.  She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph… Gabriel appeared to her and said, ‘Greetings, favored woman!  The Lord is with you!  Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don‘t be frightened, Mary,” the angel told her, “for God has decided to bless you.”‘  Luke 1:26-30

What do I do when I feel overwhelmed?

  •  Let go of my need to control the situation

“Mary asked the angel,But how can I have a baby?  I am a virgin’…the angel replied…  ‘Nothing is impossible with God!’”  Luke 1:34, 37

“Mary responded, ‘I am the Lord’s servant, and I am willing to accept whatever He wants. May everything you have said come true.’”  Luke 1:38

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Look at what God promises …

“The Lord will work out His plans for my life.” Psalm 138:8 (NLT)

God’s plan is ….

  • Often Bigger
  • Often Harder
  • Always Better

  1. Let others help me out

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.39 A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town40 where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth.Luke 1:38-40

When you are overwhelmed you need an Elizabeth

  1. Strong believer
  2. Someone Older than you
  3. Someone further along than you

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

  1. Let God give me strength

45 You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said. Luke 1:45

When you go through deep waters,I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.

When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;the flames will not consume you. Isaiah 43:2

Where to find Strength

  • In Praising God for His Goodness

Post it notes

  •  Thinking about God’s Word –

‘Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and thought about them often’  Luke 2:19

Recap

Let Go of control

Let Others Help

Let God give me strength

I’m overwhelmed with sorrow!  Sunk in a swamp of despair!  …But me, I’m not giving up.  I’m sticking around to see what God will do.  I’m waiting for God to make things right.”  Micah 7:1, 7
