A 5 Day Devotional | 2 Corinthians 1:3-10
God doesn't always remove the pressure, but He uses it to teach us where our strength really comes from.
MAIN SCRIPTURE:
"We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it." -2 Corinthians 1:8
SUPPORTING PASSAGES:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." -Psalm 34:18
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." -Psalm 147:3
The Permission to Say "This Is Too Much"
Paul, one of the greatest leaders in the early church, looked at his circumstances and said plainly: this is more than I can handle. He did not dress it up. He did not project strength. He was honest. There is something deeply freeing about that. God does not ask you to pretend. He meets you where you actually are, not where you think you should be.
Some of us have been carrying things silently for a long time, convinced that admitting it out loud would mean we have failed. But the first step toward receiving comfort is honesty. You cannot hand to God what you will not admit is heavy.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
- What are you carrying right now that you have not admitted is heavy?
- What would it feel like to say out loud: "This is too much for me"?
- What has kept you from being honest with God about your struggles?
PRAYER:
"God, I stop pretending today. Here is what is actually weighing on me: [name it]. I am not fine. I need You."
